Over the years in the textile and garments manufacturing industry, there are only a few websites which give details on care labelling and which explain the different symbols we have on our care labelling and the wording we used.

At Sweet Rain, we want to provide our customer with complete & transparent information which we definitely think will be very handy and useful.

Definition of Care Wording

Washing - Machine Methods

• Machine wash: A garment may be cleaned using a machine designed to remove soil through the use of water, detergent or soap, and agitation. If no temperature is given, the hottest water can be used on a regular basis.
• Machine wash Warm: Use "hand comfortable" water between 90-110º F (32-44º C).
• Machine wash Cold: Use cold tap water at temperatures up to 85º F (30º C).
• Small load: Use smaller than normal washing load.
• Delicate cycle: Use slow agitation and reduced washing time.
• Permanent press cycle: Use cool or cold rinse before spinning at a reduced time
• Separately: Wash alone.
• With like colors: Wash with colors of common hue and intensity.
• Wash inside out: Turn garment inside out before washing to protect fabric

Washing - Hand Methods

• Hand wash: Garment should be manually washed with water, detergent or soap and gentle squeezing action.
• Warm: "Hand comfortable" temperature.
• Cold: "Cold tap water" temperature.
• No wring or twist: To avoid wrinkles and stretching of fabric.

Drying - All Methods

• Tumble dry: Use machine dryer. If no temperature setting is listed, a hot setting can be used.
• Medium: Set dryer at medium heat.
• Low: Set dryer at low heat.
• Permanent press: Use permanent press cycle on dryer.
• No heat: Set dryer to no heat setting.
• Remove promptly: Remove garment from dryer immediately once it is dry.
• Drip dry: Hang dripping wet with or without hand shaping.
• Line dry: Hang damp from line or bar in or out doors.
• Dry flat: Lay out horizontally to dry.

Ironing and Pressing

• Iron: The garment needs ironing on a regular basis. May use highest temperature iron setting.
• Warm iron: Use medium temperature setting on iron.
• Cool iron: Use lowest temperature setting.
• Do not iron: Do not smooth or finish with an iron.
• Steam press or iron: Use iron on steam setting.
• Iron wrong side only: Turn garment inside out to iron.

Bleaching

• Bleach when needed: All bleaches may be used when necessary.
• Do not bleach: No bleaches may be used.
• Only non-chlorine bleach, when needed: Use non-chlorine bleach such as Clorox 2 only; do not use chlorine bleach.

Dry-cleaning

• Dry clean: If all commercially available dry cleaning solvents can be used, the label may read "dry clean". If a label says "dry clean," all pieces of a garment, including the outer shell, lining, buttons, interfacing, fusing material and trim, can withstand the dry cleaning process and will not be altered during cleaning.
• Professionally Dry Clean Only: A garment may not be machine or hand-washed and should be taken to a professional dry cleaning establishment. If "Professionally Dry Clean" appears on the label, you must also include modifications to the dry cleaning process instructions needed. Modifications may include:
  • Petroleum, Fluorocarbon or Perchloroethylene: Use the solvent(s) specified to Dry-Clean the item.
  • Short Cycle: Reduce cleaning time.
  • Minimum Extraction: Least possible extraction time.
  • Reduced Moisture or Low Moisture: Decrease relative humidity.
  • No Tumble or Do Not Tumble: Do not tumble dry.
  • Tumble Warm: Tumble dry up to 120ºF (49ºC).
  • Tumble Cool: Tumble dry at room temperature.
  • Cabinet Dry Warm: Cabinet dry up to 120ºF (49ºC).
  • Cabinet Dry Cool: Cabinet dry at room temperature.
  • Steam Only: Employ no contact pressure when steaming.
  • No steam or Do Not Steam: Do not use steam in pressing, finishing, steam cabinets or wands.

Definition of Care Symbols

Machine Wash Cycle	Regular/Normal Cycle with regular agitation and spin speed may be used.
	Use Permanent Press/Wrinkle Resistant washer setting (which has a cool down or cold spray before the reduced spin).
	Use Gentle/Delicate washer setting (slow agitation and/or reduced wash time).
	Hand wash only.
	Do not wash.
	Do not wring by hand or use rollers on wringer washer. Hang dry, drip dry or dry flat.
Water Temperature	Maximum water temperature 200°F/95°C
	Maximum water temperature 160°F/70°C.
	Maximum water temperature 140°F/60°C.
	Maximum water temperature 120°F/50°C.
	Maximum water temperature 105°F/40°C.
	Maximum water temperature 85°F/30°C.
Tumble Dry Cycle	Machine dry.
	Use Normal Cycle setting.
	Use Permanent Press/Wrinkle Resistant Cycle setting.
	Use Gentle/Delicate Cycle setting.
	Do not tumble dry.
Heat Setting	Set dryer at any heat.
	Set dryer at High heat.
	Set dryer at Medium heat.
	Set dryer at Low heat.
	No heat/air.
	Do not dry (used with do not wash).
Special Instructions	Line dry/hang to dry - hang damp from line or bar and allow drying.
	Drip dry - hang wet on plastic hanger and allow drying with hand shaping only.
	Dry flat - lay garment on flat surface.
	Dry in the shade.
Bleach Symbols	Use any bleach (when needed.
	Use only non-chlorine bleach (when needed).
	Do not bleach.
Iron-Dry or Steam	Iron - Ironing is needed.

	Do not iron or press with heat.

Dryclean - Normal Cycle	Dryclean.
	Dryclean using any solvent.
